AK Cultural Dance Troupe (AKCDT) is @AkbayanSJSU's Pilipinx folk dance group that performs at various Pilipinx, Asian American, and other cultural events across San Jose and the Bay Area! AKCDT is open to those that are interested in learning about and entering the beautiful world of Philippines' folk dances, regardless of experience level. For FAN SJSU's Inaugural Legacy Gala, AKCDT will be performing Salakot and Tinikling. Salakot roughly translates to 'native hat' from Tagalog and originates from the valleys and plains of Panay Island of the Visayas region in the Philippines. Tinikling is a dance that depicts tikling birds running between tree branches and dodging bamboo traps set by rice farmers, and it originates from Leyte which is also in the Visayas region.
